After five days of uncertainty, this Thursday has shed some light on the future of the player Christian Eriksen.

The Danish Federation has issued a statement in which it explains that the footballer will undergo surgery to implant a pacemaker in order to prevent him from suffering another cardiac arrest like last Saturday during the match between his team and Finland in the European Championship.

"This device is necessary after a heart attack because there are heart rhythm disturbances," says the statement, which also indicates that it is the optimal treatment.

“Christian has accepted this solution and the plan has been confirmed by national and international specialists.

Everyone recommends this treatment ”.

The Danish player gave the great scare of the Eurocup by fainting in the 42nd minute of the match of the first day against Finland.

From that moment there were dramatic images: his teammates formed a circle around the player to prevent the cameras from obtaining images, fans in the stadium crying, as well as some of the Danish teammates, and the health workers practicing resuscitation maneuvers in the pitch.

They were moments of authentic panic in the Copenhagen stadium.

Fortunately, the quick intervention of the paramedics helped them to revive him on the pitch.

"He was dead," said Martin Boesen, a doctor from the Danish federation who treated him before he was transferred to the hospital, already conscious.

There he has remained all this time, under observation, undergoing tests and trials, and as usual, social networks were filled with messages of support for the player throughout these days. Romelu Lukaku, his teammate at Inter, dedicated the first of his goals to him against Russia in Belgium's debut at the European Championship. "I love you Chris, get good," the striker shouted at the camera after opening the scoring. This Thursday, in the confrontation between the Red Devils and Denmark, he will be honored in the 10th minute, his number in the national team. Faced with so much affection, the only thing Eriksen has been able to do is thank the support from his hospital bed. First with a letter in La Gazzetta dello Sport and then with a post on Instagram. "I do not give up," he says in his publication in which he is seen smiling and with his thumb up.The Danish Federation has called for "peace and privacy" for the midfielder and his family.

It is still too early to talk about his future as a player, with a long way to go if he wants to get back on the pitch. But if you want to find a source of inspiration, you don't have to look far. Daniel Blind, a defender for the Netherlands national team and Eriksen's former teammate at Ajax, has long played with pacemakers and is a fixture on their teams. "I had a lot of problems with that, but I'm proud to have overcome it," says the full-back, who fainted during a friendly match last summer due to a faulty pacemaker. “These days all the emotions resurfaced. What happened on Saturday had a huge impact on me. Besides the fact that I know Christian well as a friend, the situation is dire for him. Of course, I also had some experiences in this area,so I had to overcome a mental obstacle ”, he reflected.

Eriksen will have the operation as soon as possible and his recovery time is totally up in the air.

There are more who have hung their boots after an incident like this, like De la Red or Iker Casillas for example, so you have to walk with lead feet.

The good news is that a solution has already been found to prevent Eriksen from having to suffer something like this again and to lead a full life, on or off the pitch.
