A gunman opened fire yesterday (Sunday) inside a church in Lagoon Woods, Cliff, Southern California (south of Los Angeles).
The shooting began at noon.
Although most of the casualties were of Taiwanese descent, the district sheriff's department said the motive was in fact still being investigated and unclear.
The shooter, an average Asian man in his sixties, stormed the church while her friends were eating lunch together after morning prayers, carrying two weapons.
During the shooting, one person was killed and four others were seriously injured.
Finally, a group of islanders managed to defeat the shooter, whom they tied up until law enforcement arrived at the scene.
The deputy sheriff of the district praised the group for its swift action and said: "This group of worshipers demonstrated in their actions extraordinary heroism and courage. They sought contact to prevent and arrest the shooter. There is no doubt that they thus prevented further wounded and dead."
