The city of Essen accidentally sent the data of 13,000 citizens who have registered for a corona vaccination in an email to 700 recipients.
A spokeswoman for the city confirmed the data breach.
"It was a human mistake, we can only apologize for it," said the spokeswoman.
The data protection authority of the country had been informed.
The city also wrote again to all 700 addressees and asked them to delete the errant.
Some citizens reacted very angrily to the mistake, the spokeswoman reported.
The »WAZ« had previously reported.
The reason for this was the changed opening times in the Essen vaccination center, the spokeswoman said.
A letter was sent to the 700 people who had arranged a vaccination appointment after 6 p.m. by August 15 and who should now be asked to make another appointment due to the shorter opening times.
The group was generated from Excel files of all 13,000 people who wanted to be vaccinated by mid-August.
Inadvertently, these files were not deleted before the mail was sent.
They contained name, address and date of birth, often also telephone numbers and email addresses as well as the vaccination status.
