Cleanliness: what if certain streets in Paris were cleaned ... by suburban towns?

2021-04-20T17:31:26.801Z

Discussions are underway between Paris and Pantin so that municipal agents, on the Seine-Saint-Denis side, can clean a limited lane.

Streets located on the other side of the ring road, on the suburb side, but still within the administrative limits of the capital.

All around the inner ring, the management of these arteries is regularly controversial: the City of Paris would let them deteriorate, soiled, or even become open dumps.

In 2016, Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine) stepped up to the plate against the “No man's land” of Porte Brancion.

Two years later, the town hall of Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) also complained about the “abandonment” of the rue du Professeur-Gosset, a street in the 18th arrondissement behind the Porte de Clignancourt.

, delivery people… Between Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis, there will be life under the periphery!

The subject has been talked about again in recent days on the sidelines of the #SaccageParis campaign, widely relayed on social networks by the opposition to the mayor of Paris.

How to cure it ?

In Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis), the town hall asked the City of Paris to be able to clean itself the part of the rue Magenta, located administratively in the capital.

A piece of sidewalk where no Parisians live, but which is, on the other hand, frequented by many inhabitants of Pantin.

"Our agents clean a sidewalk, then they will stop because there is the administrative border"

"And it is our municipalities which are best able to clean these Parisian streets," explains the mayor (PS) Bertrand Kern.

Somehow it's more natural.

Our agents clean a sidewalk, then they will stop because there is the administrative border… While those in Paris must pass the Porte de la Villette, under the Forceval passage… As much as it is our agents who continue to the end from the street.

Because household waste does not know the administrative limits.

"

A little further away, Pantin also struggled to improve the maintenance of rue du Chemin-de-Fer, wedged between the ring road and the Paris Event Center.

“At one time, it was not maintained at all and had become a landfill, continues Bertrand Kern.

Now Paris has pledged to drop by once a week.

"

The City of Paris confirms that it is pursuing “a policy of agreement for the management of adjacent public spaces when it comes to sectors nested in neighboring municipalities and frequented above all by the inhabitants of these municipalities.

"

Already agreements with Saint-Mandé, Gentilly ...

An agreement has already been signed in 2020 with Saint-Mandé (Val-de-Marne) for the bordering roads of the Bois de Vincennes.

The same should soon be the case with Gentilly for the Cambodia footbridge, a work also straddling Paris and Val-de-Marne.

The signing is "in progress", confirms the City of Paris, which explains that it compensates each time the service provided.

"A discussion is also underway with Pantin on the scope of this agreement and the amount of compensation," she adds.

On the side of Saint-Ouen, the socialist municipality is working on the establishment of a "Paris-Saint-Ouen cooperation agreement" which should be presented to the municipal council in May.

If the text has not yet been voted on, the flea sector has been particularly targeted, with many “black spots of filth, wild displays and graffiti.

"

The two municipalities wish to "act in concert to carry out joint and coordinated cleaning campaigns" by bringing together the services working on both sides of the ring road much more closely.
