Climate Academy, study on ultrafine particles ... Paris continues to go green

An orchard, a laboratory dedicated to eco-construction, a factory to learn how to sew your own clothes, a bicycle repair shop, and much more.

On the three floors of the superb building that housed the former town hall of the 4th arrondissement, Place Baudoyer, the Climate Academy opened its doors on Wednesday.

After the mobilization, in 2019, of millions of young people who called on political leaders to act immediately in the face of the climate emergency, the mayor (PS) of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, had decided to make the places available for the creation of this laboratory of the future, built by and for young people.

The Climate Academy takes place in the old town hall of the 4th arrondissement.

For months, all the departments of the City of Paris, around twenty youth organizations, dozens of partners and actors in ecology, education, research, schools, colleges Parisians, were working on the creation of this unique place, which combines educational innovation and activism, aimed at everyone, and more particularly 9-18 year olds.

On the program: discoveries of the work and studies carried out by young people in favor of the climate, on improving thermal insulation, in particular, the creation of furniture from recycled pallets or ethical clothing.

But also DIY, sewing and gardening workshops, educational tours, conferences.

With an ultimate goal for the teams, whose watchword is "let's talk little, but act climate": that their discoveries in the fight against the climate crisis be taken up and exploited.

A study on ultrafine particles in Paris

In the future, they will also be able to examine the results of a study of air quality in Paris.

This Friday, the City announced the signing of a partnership with Bloomberg Philantropies, the organization founded by Michael Bloomberg, special envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for the climate.

This study will make it possible to measure ultrafine particles at strategic sites in the capital, to know their effects on health.

“They represent a real public health issue and their emissions are still poorly regulated by regulations, underlines Michael Bloomberg.

The data we collect makes it possible to help public decisions and support initiatives that protect individuals and save lives, not only in Paris but in cities around the world.
