Club World Cup: Liverpool only make it to the final with its regulars

Liverpool's C-Elf lost in the League Cup on Tuesday, the B-Elf has now made it to the final of the Club World Cup. It was close to Monterrey CF, but in the end Roberto Firmino saved the Reds.



Liverpool FC made it into the final of the Club World Cup in Doha. In the World Cup semifinals, Jürgen Klopp's team defeated Mexico's Monterrey CF 2-1 (1-1). Naby Keita took the lead (12th minute), Rogelio Funes Mori equalized (14th minute). Substitute Roberto Firmino scored the winning goal in added time (90. + 1). In the final on Saturday, Liverpool will face Flamengo from Brazil, the winner of the Copa Libertadores in South America.

Monterrey had qualified as the reigning winner of the Central American Concacaf Champions League for the tournament, Liverpool had won the premier class in Europe. The Reds could win their first title as club world champion.

Klopp didn't line up his best Liverpool team. Regulars like Georginio Wijnaldum and Trent Alexander-Arnold sat on the bench. Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané were initially missing in the storm. Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain played for it. The sick defense chief Virgil van Dijk was also not in the starting XI.

Early leadership, quick compensation

Liverpool was eliminated from the English League Cup on Tuesday. Due to the schedule of the cup game one day before the club World Cup match, Liverpool had set up a team of U23 players. Aston Villa won the game 5-0.
