Collectors: where does this passion for accumulation come from?

Jacques Attali accumulates the hourglasses, Angelina Jolie the daggers, Tom Hanks the typewriters ... Among stars and anonymous, the collection is popular: in 2021, nearly 40% of French people completed one and 79% kept one. at least one in their lifetime, according to an eBay / Ifop study published in April 2021. Most popular objects: coins, stamps, postcards, vinyl records or figurines… But why are so many of us collecting series heterogeneous objects that often have little utility or monetary value?
