In Geretsried there could be other ways to charge electric cars in public parking lots in the medium term.

Geretsried – At its most recent meeting, the city council's building and environmental committee commissioned the administration to examine other locations for charging stations.

In the next step, cost estimates are to be presented to the committee.

Ten public charging stations in the city area

There are currently ten public charging stations for e-cars in Geretsried.

Four of them are operated by the city or the public utilities, namely at the town hall, on Egerlandstraße, in the multi-storey car park of the indoor swimming pool and on Neuer Platz.

The other e-charging stations can be found in the commercial sector, explained energy manager Roswitha Foißner.

For example, there are some at Autohaus Pennig, at Pulcra, at Autoteile Konrad and at Aldi and Rossmann on Sudetenstrasse.

Parking lots should be upgraded

Peter Curtius (Greens) initiated the city council in spring to consider how Geretsried could be a pioneer and promote e-mobility.

The Climate & Transport working group then drew up a list of suggestions for additional urban charging options.

This was approved by the Building and Environment Committee with a dissenting vote from Arthur Wolfseher (SPD).

If it is possible, some parking spaces in the center of Gelting, at the ice cream parlor L'Arena, at the ice stadium, at the forest cemetery, on the Böhmwiese and in Stein should be upgraded.

"Wherever there is a normal distribution box, you can ask whether there is enough power," explained Foissner.

The working group also discussed schools.

"If a charging station is not always accessible, however, the subsidy is only half that," the energy manager pointed out.

Speaking of funding: Foissner suggested examining the locations and planning the necessary funds in the budget when the decision was made.

If subsidies are then released, the administration could strike directly.

In principle, there are always programs.

"We just have to stay tuned." The city has to calculate with 15,000 euros for an AC charging station.

The maintenance costs are 600 euros per year and charging point.

No fast chargers in the city area

There is always a demand for quick charging stations, i.e. with direct current, reported Foissner.

So far, there are none of these in the city area, and the municipality will probably not build any.

The acquisition costs of 130,000 euros are “not necessarily in our price range”, Foissner made clear.

In addition, not all vehicle models can charge quickly.

And if it did, the costs for quick tapping would be significantly higher.

"The faster, the more expensive."

Basically, when it comes to climate protection, the focus must be on avoiding private transport and shifting to walking, cycling or public transport.

"But here in the outer area we will always have individual traffic," says Foissner.

The switch to electromobility has the advantage, among other things, that CO2 emissions are reduced and less pollutants and noise are produced locally.

In order to make turning away from combustion engines more attractive, Curtius had also proposed separate lanes for e-cars.

However, "we don't have a road with multiple lanes that aren't turning lanes," says Foissner.

Something could also be done about discounts on parking.

In the multi-storey car park, however, it is not technically possible to distinguish between them.

And in the center "we would attract more traffic again".

In this respect, charging stations in publicly accessible places are a viable option, especially if people have no possibility to charge at home.

Stations make sense especially in commercial areas with employers

But these are also important, stressed Dr.

Sabine Gus-Mayer (CSU).

"We have to see that we approach homeowners' associations and homeowners of apartment buildings," she said.

Andreas Rottmüller (CSU) added that stations would be particularly useful in commercial areas with employers.

Foissner admitted that, but the city had no influence here.

"Our part that we can contribute is a few more charging stations."
