Company recalls canned pizza tomatoes

A Bavarian company is recalling tin cans with pizza tomatoes because the paint has occasionally been found to peel off when heated. A health hazard cannot be ruled out.


The food company Paul M. Müller is recalling the product “Adria Pizza Tomatoes (Polpa di Pomodoro)” across Germany.

Accordingly, 4680 cans of size 4250 milliliters with the best before date August 31, 2022 are affected.

A spokesman for the Bavarian company said that occasional paint peeling was found in the cans during quality controls.

The paint peeling could lead to thermal reactions when heated, it was said that a health hazard could not be ruled out.

Affected is the batch with the number SI LJ 240, it has been withdrawn from the sale.

The marking is on the lid or bottom of the can.

The product is sold throughout Germany in wholesalers and food retailers.

Customers can return the product in the respective store, the purchase price will also be refunded without a receipt.
