Update from April 16, 12 noon

: Bavaria is heading for a tougher lockdown in schools and retailers in the next week due to the further increase in corona numbers.

On Friday, only the three districts of Miltenberg, Tirschenreuth and Lindau and the independent city of Bamberg were below a seven-day incidence of 100, according to statistics from the Robert Koch Institute.

The national average was 180.4 and was thus clearly above the national average of 160. The city of Hof is no longer the front runner, but has been replaced by Greiz (Thuringia) as the top hotspot in Germany.

For many Bavarian districts and urban districts, the conditions are met that from Monday onwards, as part of the emergency braking regulation, schools must largely switch to distance teaching.

Exceptions are final grades, 4th grades and 11th grades at the grammar school.

Munich had already announced a corresponding regulation on Friday morning (see previous update).

Regardless of the ongoing discussion about school openings up to an incidence of 200 at the federal level *, the 100 limit currently applies in Bavaria, from which the emergency brake is applied in schools.

In the retail sector, 23 districts met the conditions for a complete closure in the next week on Friday - that is, a seven-day incidence over 200 for at least three days at a time.

Corona in Bavaria: Söder-Minister calls easing for vaccinated people - quarantine rule falls

Update from April 15, 6:16 p.m.:

Vaccinated people no longer have to be quarantined in Bavaria, even after close contact with corona infected people. A new general decree with this relief came into force on Thursday, as Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) said.

There is now no quarantine requirement for vaccinated people from the 15th day after their final vaccination and for people who were infected in the last six months. If the infection was a long time ago, but the person has been vaccinated, he does not have to be in quarantine either. According to the experience and knowledge of the Robert Koch Institute, all of these groups of people are hardly infectious. All other "close contacts of confirmed cases" must immediately be placed in quarantine at home for 14 days and are not allowed to leave or receive visitors.

Update from April 15, 12.20 p.m.:

The Bavarian city of Hof remains Germany's number 1 corona hotspot (see first report).

Now the Bundeswehr is helping with vaccination there.

The staff will help in the existing centers and with the mobile vaccination teams, said state command spokesman Carsten Spiering on Thursday.

The vaccination times are to be extended to 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

However, the Bundeswehr will not operate its own center in Hof as it does in Saarland, which vaccinates around the clock, emphasized the spokesman.

Corona in Bavaria: Members of the state parliament will have to wear a mask during the meeting in the future

In the future, Bavarian state parliament members will also have to wear an FFP mask * during meetings to protect against corona infections. The order will apply from April 19, but it will be asked to fulfill it immediately, said the President of the State Parliament Ilse Aigner at the start of the plenary session on Thursday. Parliament met on Thursday with a reduced number of MPs.

"We all have to do our best to minimize the risk of infection with the coronavirus," said the politician.

The currently prevailing British virus mutant * is many times more contagious.

“In a corona case, many members of parliament and employees might have to be in quarantine - despite the distance and ventilation.

We have to reduce this risk as much as possible for Parliament as a constitutional body, ”emphasized Aigner.

Holetschek: Discussion about loosening is incomprehensible

Update from April 15, 11:28 a.m

.: Klaus Holetschek has sharply rejected discussions about further easing of the anti-corona measures in view of the galloping numbers of infections. "This is a discussion that I personally cannot understand," said Bavaria's health minister on Thursday in the state parliament in Munich.

The number of new corona infections in Bavaria was 5458 on Thursday, compared to 3973 a week ago. The seven-day incidence was 178.4. If the development continues like this, highs in the occupancy of intensive care beds with ventilation options would be exceeded.

There are currently 703 beds with ventilation options, 43 percent more than three weeks ago.

The previous maximum occupancy was 822 beds at the height of the second wave on January 3 of this year.

Every second ventilated patient dies.

"The nurses fight for life on these wards," said Holetschek.

Corona crisis exacerbates differences of opinion in Bavaria's government

Update from April 15, 10:26 a.m.:

The Corona crisis exacerbates the differences of opinion in the Bavarian government: After the free voters want to lodge a constitutional complaint against the planned "federal emergency brake", Health Minister Klaus Holetschek defended the curfews provided: The restrictions are on important means to bring the third corona wave under control. That said the CSU politician of the

Augsburger Allgemeine

(Thursday). "We need a noticeable and permanent decrease in the number of infections and must protect our health system from overload."

The effectiveness of the exit restrictions is also convincingly confirmed from a scientific point of view, said Holetschek.

"The first wave of the pandemic has shown that contact-reducing measures that are reliably observed, together with strict containment, make a significant contribution to containing the pandemic."

Corona in Bavaria: Free voters want to let the "federal emergency brake" tilt

The coalition partners of the Free Voters, on the other hand, want to tilt the “Federal Emergency Brake” in Karlsruhe.

"With an amendment to the Infection Protection Act, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the black-red federal government want to curtail the powers of the states," said party leader and Minister of Economics Hubert Aiwanger on Wednesday evening.

Without a time limit, the planned curfew at 9 p.m. could possibly last for months.

This is "grotesque and dangerous," Aiwanger explained in an interview with

Bavarian city remains Germany's corona hotspot - fuss about new rule: "We can't mediate"

First report from April 15, 9.42 a.m.:

Munich - The Corona * numbers are increasing.

The Bavarian city of Hof remains the nationwide hotspot with a seven-day incidence * of 567.4.

The district of Hof follows in third place with a value of 474.7.

The incidence is also continuing to rise in the state capital of Munich.

The day before the incidence was 147.1, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI *) reported a value of 154.3 on Thursday.

The incidence for the whole of Bavaria is 178.4.

Corona in Bavaria - fuss about new rule: "We can't convey it in an understandable way"

Due to the increasing corona numbers, the federal government around Chancellor Angela Merkel wants stricter rules.

The tightening of the Infection Protection Act decided by the government also has an impact on funeral ceremonies.

And they are unacceptable from the point of view of undertakers.

You criticize a planned restriction of participants at funeral ceremonies.

"After the experience of the last few months, with the most varied regulations in each federal state, we cannot understand this general number of 15 people without any differentiation options and taking into account the respective local conditions, and also not convey it in an understandable manner to the grieving relatives." Chairwoman of the Bavarian Undertaker Association, Ralf Michal, in Schweinfurt.

For corona incidence over 100: Only 15 people allowed at funeral services

The tightening of the Infection Protection Act resolved by the federal government means that if there is an incidence of more than 100 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, a maximum of 15 people are allowed to attend a funeral. "In practice that would mean that some families are not even allowed to take their own children and grandchildren to the funeral service," said Michal, who is also Vice President of the Federal Association of German Undertakers. "Even siblings of the deceased might not be present at the funeral."

Relatives are in an exceptional situation after the death of a loved one, as Michal emphasized.

"The planned severe limitation of mourning guests and the associated exclusion of relatives would lead to massive irritation and great incomprehension." According to him, 2500 people die every day in Germany.

"In terms of those who died of and with Covid-19 and their relatives as well as all funeral services currently taking place daily, this circumstance must be taken into account." The Undertaker Association therefore demands that the restriction to 15 participants must be withdrawn.
