seven-day incidence

This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m.
On Thursday, the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 314.2 (previous week: 345.9; previous month: 702.4).
However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.
Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done.
Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.
In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.
The health authorities in Germany recently
reported 46,724 new corona infections
(previous week: 49,839) and
169 deaths
(previous week: 167) to the RKI within one day.
Here, too, comparisons of the data are only possible to a limited extent due to the test behavior, late registrations or transmission problems.
In general, the number of registered new infections and deaths varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
The RKI has counted 31,771,884 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.
Overall, there has been a renewed decline in the key indicators during the corona crisis.
The nationwide seven-day incidence was 18 percent lower than in the previous week.
This emerges from the institute's weekly report on Thursday, which refers to the week of August 8th to 14th.
The number of registered new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants has therefore fallen in all age groups and was 356 in the week. However, a high number of unreported cases can be assumed.
The RKI estimates the number of doctor consultations due to an acute respiratory disease with an additional Covid 19 diagnosis in the past week at around 230,000.
The week before, it had been 270,000.
Declines recorded in intensive care units
The number of people with Covid 19 diagnosis in intensive care units also fell.
At 298, the RKI also reported fewer deaths in connection with Corona than in the previous week.
At that time, it registered 372 such cases.
Late registrations can still be expected with these data.
"Despite the decline in the number of cases, the infection pressure in the general population remains high in all age groups," writes the RKI and once again promotes vaccination: "Furthermore, unvaccinated people of all age groups have a significantly higher risk of a severe form of the Covid-19 disease. Illness."
On Thursday, the Standing Vaccination Commission recommended a second booster vaccination for risk groups and for people over the age of 60 to better protect them from serious illness.
The recommendation previously applied to risk groups and people aged 70 and over.
The World Health Organization's independent immunization council also recommended giving older people a second booster shot on Thursday, although it didn't give an exact age.
