New York repeals corona regulations
4.30 a.m.:
After more than 70 percent of adults in New York state received at least one dose of vaccine against the coronavirus, Governor Andrew Cuomo lifted all remaining restrictions. "Today is an important day," Cuomo said at a press conference on Tuesday. "We can now return to the life we know." Before that, there had been restrictions on, among other things, major events. Most of the restrictions in everyday life, however, had already been lifted in the past few weeks.
With 70 percent primary vaccinations for adults, the state has also achieved the nationwide target set by US President Joe Biden by Independence Day on July 4th.
To celebrate, there should be fireworks in numerous locations in the state on Wednesday night, and famous buildings should glow in gold and blue, said Cuomo.
Not all states are that far; according to the CDC, around 65 percent of all adults nationwide have received at least one dose of vaccine.

The coronavirus will stay, even if the majority of the world's population should be vaccinated - the majority of experts now assume that. That is why it will be important to monitor the pathogen continuously - in order to be able to adapt vaccines and to detect waves of propagation at an early stage. Since the problem is global, an international structure is necessary, said Isabella Eckerle, head of the Emerging Viruses research group at the University of Geneva.
"Particularly those regions in which access to vaccines is limited and which have to wait a long time for the population to be vaccinated and in which at the same time largely uncontrolled virus circulation takes place represent risk areas for new variants," says Eckerle.
Livestock and wild animal populations should also be included in the monitoring.
A model could be the influenza monitoring system for the annual flu waves, said Richard Neher, head of the research group Evolution of Viruses and Bacteria at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel.
"There has been a global network here for years that has been collecting influenza viruses and measuring their incidence." Every six months there is a recommendation for the composition of the flu vaccine.
Already 52 corona cases at the Copa America
3.30 a.m.:
Two days after the start of the Copa America, there are already dozens of corona cases at the South American continental tournament. 52 football players and employees had tested positive, the sports newspaper "Lance" reported on Tuesday, citing the Brazilian Ministry of Health. In the Venezuelan delegation alone, around a dozen players and employees were recently infected.
The Copa America started on Sunday.
The South American continental tournament was only moved to Brazil a few weeks after Argentina dropped out as the host because of the second corona wave.
The South American football association Conmebol then came under fire because Brazil is still a hot spot: over 17.5 million people there have been shown to have been infected with the corona virus, and more than 490,000 people have died in connection with Covid-19.
