Medical associations complain about unreliable vaccine deliveries

6.25 a.m.:

Medical associations complain about a lack of reliability in the delivery of corona vaccines.

»14 million people in Germany have now been boosted, 10 million of them in practices.

At this rate, the goal of 30 million vaccinations by Christmas is not completely unrealistic, "said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), Andreas Gassen, the editorial network Germany (RND).

The progress in vaccination is slowed down by politics.

For the vaccinations this week, contract and company doctors as well as the public health service have ordered around 6.5 million doses of Biontech vaccine.

"But only 2.9 million cans are delivered, which is less than half," said Gassen.

The German Association of General Practitioners also criticized the current situation. "In the last few weeks, the vaccination campaign has unfortunately lagged significantly behind because it was not possible to order enough vaccine for the great demand for vaccinations," said Federal Chairman Ulrich Weigeldt of the RND. The basic prerequisite for the success of the vaccination campaign, however, is precisely that the family doctor's practices reliably receive the ordered amount of vaccine from the respective manufacturer at the specified time.

The outgoing Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) reassured on Tuesday evening that there would be enough vaccine to achieve the goal of 30 million vaccinations in the next few weeks.

When asked about the lack of a vaccine in the doctor's office, he said in the ZDF “heute journal” that he understood that there was frustration and anger in everyday life.

"I can only apologize for that."

The funds from Biontech and Moderna are used for boosting, although the federal government recently introduced upper order limits for Biontech until further notice - because stocks of the vaccine that has been used most frequently up to now are quickly emptied.

UN Secretary General

Guterres

goes into corona quarantine

6.19 a.m.:

UN Secretary General António Guterres goes into quarantine because of contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19.

"He showed no symptoms and was initially tested negative," confirmed spokesman Farhan Haq on Tuesday evening.

As a precaution, the 72-year-old Guterres canceled all appointments and will work from his residence in Manhattan until another test on Thursday.

It is so far unclear who the person who tested positive was.

Norway

announces new measures because of the Omikron variant

6.11 a.m.:

The Norwegian government has announced a tightening of the contact

restrictions

because of the new Omikron variant of the

corona virus

. "The situation is now so serious that we have to take new measures to keep the pandemic under control," said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on Tuesday. "The risk of overloading the health services and the spread of the contagious Omikron variant now requires strict new measures in our country."

From Thursday at midnight, the number of guests in an apartment should be limited to a maximum of ten.

In bars and restaurants there is only table service.

The measures are initially limited to four weeks, but there are exceptions for the Christmas holidays.

On these days, 20 guests are allowed - as long as a minimum distance is observed.

The reason for the new restrictions is a corona outbreak with the new Omikron variant at a party in Oslo last week.

So far, 29 cases of the new variant have been registered in the Scandinavian country.
