Corona vaccination: At the family doctor, everyone will soon be priority one

2021-05-14T15:54:38.308Z

Three federal states are canceling the vaccination sequence at the family doctor from Monday, the number of infections continues to fall - and the latest from research: our Corona weekly overview.

Timo Lenzen / DER SPIEGEL

Dear readers,

On Wednesday, 1.35 million people in Germany were vaccinated against Covid-19 as never before in one day.

Every third person has now received at least one dose.

However, there are still significantly more people who want to be vaccinated than there are opportunities for vaccination.

And the situation is becoming more and more opaque.

Depending on the federal state, different groups have their turn to vaccinate at different times.

Sometimes you get envious, some people also wonder whether it is actually okay to get vaccinated when people at a significantly higher risk of a severe course of Covid-19 are still waiting for a dose.

The possibility to be vaccinated by the family doctor even as a healthy young person without a particular risk of infection exists in any case - or shall we say it is justified.

For the vector vaccines from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson, the prioritization has been lifted nationwide, in Berlin, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg it will fall on Monday for all vaccine types.

In all likelihood, this will not make it easier to get an appointment with your doctor for the vaccination.

One can only hope that the frustration of looking for a vaccination appointment does not lead to too many people who want to be vaccinated.
