A 50-year-old man died in the town of San Pedro in Jujuy and it is being investigated whether the causes of his death are related to the intake of chlorine dioxide .
The victim died of a cardiac arrest that would have been caused by intoxication, so it is being investigated whether he ingested this liquid, dangerous for human beings and contraindicated by health professionals, the newspaper El Tribuno reported .
"He had a picture of the flu but he took CDS excessively and got intoxicated," his brother Martín Ríos told Somos Jujuy.
His family explained that he was better on Monday, that he had contact with his brother, but then on the recommendation of a friend, he decided to take chlorine dioxide.
As confirmed, he would have consumed at least one and a half liters in an afternoon and that could have caused his death despite having been assisted by SAME.
The man was not tested so it is not confirmed that he had coronavirus. His family reported that he also suffered from previous pathologies, such as diabetes and hypertension.
Chlorine dioxide, a 28% solution of sodium chlorite in distilled water, has long been touted as a false cure for diseases and has now been claimed against the coronavirus.
The Argentine Toxicological Association alerted the community that this recommendation does not have any scientific evidence to support its safety or efficacy, and that it represents a risk to the health of people who consume it.
For its part, the Pan American Health Organization, clarified that " emphatically advises against the use of chlorine dioxide and its derivatives to be ingested or inhaled or for any other use in humans, these products are used to disinfect inanimate surfaces, not for human beings".
A few days ago, chlorine dioxide was in the news from the episode that featured Viviana Canosa in her program in El Nueve where she was shown taking CDS from a plastic bottle after having recognized on social networks that she used to consume it.
After taking a long drink, he looked at the camera and assured: "It oxygenates the blood. It is divine. I do not recommend. I show you what I do."
In addition, he showed a defiant poster that said: "Stop prohibiting so much because I can no longer disobey everything."
