Coronavirus: more than 1,600 cases in 24 hours, 279 “clusters” still in activity

Seven people have died from the coronavirus in France in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of victims since the start of the epidemic to 30,312, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) announced on Thursday, August 6 in its daily press release.

1,604 new cases have been detected in the past 24 hours. 141 new hospital admissions were recorded, bringing the total number of patients currently hospitalized to 5,060. Among them, 21 new serious patients have been admitted to intensive care since yesterday, bringing the number of patients in these units to 390, against 384 yesterday. The regions " Île de France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Hauts-de-France and Guyana group together 69% of patients in intensive care ", specifies the DGS.

279 “ clusters ”, or sources of contagion, are still active in the territory, including 14 new ones that have been detected in the last 24 hours. Between July 28 and August 3, 588,912 tests were carried out in the territory, with a positivity rate of 1.6%. Since the start of the epidemic, 107,943 people have been hospitalized and 82,670 have returned home.

In order to reduce the risk of infections, the DGS recommends wearing a mask, even outdoors if the distance of 1 meter is not respected, and to avoid too large friendly and family gatherings. " Focus on small groups, equip yourself with masks for the general public and hydro-alcoholic gels, prefer outdoor spaces, ventilate the premises, activate StopCovid, protect the most fragile ", she explains.

Globally, the mark of 18.8 million infected since the appearance of the virus has been crossed, for a total of at least 708,540 deaths.
