Spain decided this Saturday to keep in force the obligation to comply with a

10-day quarantine

for

travelers

arriving from six countries in Latin America and Africa, including

Argentina and Brazil

.

The measure is part of those taken

for the coronavirus pandemic.

Travelers from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Namibia and South Africa will have to comply with a 10-day quarantine from entering Spain, as they are considered

"high risk" countries

due to the levels of contagion.

This is established by an order from the Spanish Ministry of Health, which was established for the first time on July 23 and is now extended

until August 23.

📢 The @sanidadgob Order has been published, which extends the mandatory quarantine measure for passengers on flights from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Namibia and South Africa.

⏰ Until midnight.

next August 23.

"The consideration of a high-risk country is made by jointly evaluating the main epidemiological indicators used for this purpose at the European Union level. The

criteria contemplated

include the

cumulative incidence

per 100,000 inhabitants in fourteen days, the

positivity rate , the rate of diagnostic tests, or the rate of the vaccinated population ",

indicates the official text of the Spanish government.

The regulation, which was published this Saturday in the Official Gazette of Spain, qualifies as "a

very effective measure in the control of imported cases

" the decision to request travelers "a complete vaccination certification, a certificate of a test diagnosis of active infection with a negative result made before arrival in Spain or a certificate of recovery from COVID-19 and the application of quarantine ".

"

People subjected to quarantine are actively monitored

, which also facilitates that in the case of suspicion of COVID-19, the referral mechanisms to the health authorities are activated," says the official text.

In addition, he explains that this control allowed "the

early detection of imported cases and the limitation of transmission in the community

, thus avoiding the appearance of new cases and secondary outbreaks, an aspect that is especially significant if they come from countries where variants of special concern are distributed" .

With 4.5 million cases of coronavirus and 82,000 deaths, Spain is one of the countries that suffered the most from the consequences of the pandemic in Europe.

At the same time, about

60% of the Spanish population is fully vaccinated

against covid-19, which allowed a drastic decrease in the number of deaths.
