After formalizing the extension of the DNU with the restrictions that will apply until June 25, the Government announced this Saturday

the reduction of more flights

.

The frequency of trips to Europe will drop by 20 percent, air operations with the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland will continue to be suspended and countries such as Turkey and others from the African continent were added to prevent the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

Administrative Decision 589/2021, published in the Official Gazette, is signed by the Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero;

the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo Wado de Pedro;

and the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti.

The norm specifies that, as expressed by President Alberto Fernández this week, the government is particularly concerned about the Delta variant, which originated in India, and is "more transmissible and potentially more serious."

The objective of the decision, according to the statements of the statement, is "to reduce international traffic and prevent new strains of coronavirus from reaching Argentina" that circulate in other countries.

In this way, "the national health authority deems it necessary to extend and expand the preventive measures adopted through Administrative Decision No. 2252/20 and its complementary regulations, in safeguarding public health," the text indicates.

Thus, article 1 extends

until June 25, including

decisions related to "authorizations and permits" relating to "air transport operations of passengers and passengers on

direct flights

that have as origin or destination the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. North "and Turkey and countries on the African continent were added.

Meanwhile, the ban on the entry of flights originating from Brazil, Chile and India is still in force, "given the new lineage in the sequencing of local samples, with respect to the entry of people."

Revenues from Brazil, Chile and India will also remain suspended.

Meanwhile, Article 2 establishes that the Ministry of Transport "will order

a 20% reduction in the frequencies

of passenger flights originating from or destined for

European

countries

."

However, the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) "may expand, decrease or eliminate such percentage of reduction, after intervention of the health authority."

On the other hand, he points out that the Ministry of Health "will determine the points of entry to the country, routes and places that meet the best basic capacities to respond to the health emergency."

Likewise, the National Directorate of Migration may "authorize the entry of persons into the national territory through other border crossings, when there are special and accredited humanitarian reasons that warrant it."

Delta variant

The Delta variant of the coronavirus is transmitted 40% more than the Alpha, until then dominant in the United Kingdom.

As British Health Minister Matt Hancock put it: "It is more difficult to deal with this virus with the new Delta variant."

But according to a study by the Public Health of England, 42,323 cases were detected in the United Kingdom, 29,892 more than a week ago, of this new strain from India that already represents more than 90% of new infections.

"The Delta variant is associated with an approximately 60% higher risk of transmission in the family nucleus" compared to the Alpha variant, identified in December in the south-east of England and causing a surge in cases that led to almost four months of confinement, states a UK health study.

The arrival of the Delta variant, first identified in April in India and now dominant in the UK, after a long winter lockdown, threatens the lifting of the latest restrictions expected on June 21.

This variant was detected so far in Argentina in two minors who live in the Capital and returned from Paris on April 24.

They were isolated in a hotel and were not more serious.
