The person in charge of immunizations at the Hospital de Esquina, Corrientes, and another nurse were
arrested
this weekend, accused of diverting vaccines against the coronavirus and then
selling them
at a value that ranged between
8,000 and 9,000 pesos
.
The case led to a criminal complaint and now the Ministry of Public Health and the Hospital managers review the forms to establish
how many doses
were stolen.
The investigation was triggered on Thursday night when one of those immunized from outside the system contacted one of the directors of the San Roque Hospital and showed him a series of WhatsApp messages through which they offered him the vaccine.
That person provided
the identity of the nurse
who administered the dose.
On Friday, the defendant was called by the directors and
ended up confessing the deviation
.
From there, with the assistance of the legal team of the Ministry of Public Health of Corrientes, the prosecutor Javier Mosquera was intervened, who ordered the arrest of the nurse and the chief of immunizations, a nurse who has
more than 20 years of seniority
at the Esquina hospital.
The public prosecutor decreed the secrecy of summary and ordered the
search of the houses
of the defendants in search of vaccines and elements of evidence.
Meanwhile, the nurses remain detained and held incommunicado until they are investigated.
The Ministry of Public Health of Corrientes reported the fact through a statement distributed late on Saturday, in which it detailed that it acted "immediately in the face of an alleged irregularity in Esquina."
"Upon learning of the case, the Legal Counsel notified the Attorney General of that city, so that the corresponding investigation could be carried out immediately," they explained.
The diversion of vaccines would have begun in the last ten days and it has not yet been possible to establish how many were taken out of the system and applied to people who still had to wait their turn, since they have no age or comorbidities.
"We believe that there are not many because everything would have started when the flow of vaccines increased," they maintained from the Hospital.
The arrival of more doses than usual made the staff of public health employees dedicated to vaccination in Esquina reach about 20 people.
This situation would have been used by the nurse and the person in charge of immunizations to seize the vaccines.
Now Justice tries to establish the identity of the people who acquired the doses.
Members of well-known Esquina families and ranchers
from the areas
are mentioned
as the beneficiaries of the irregular inoculation.
