Coronavirus: Vaccination at the family doctor in Mecklenburg

"We are already getting calls every day via calls asking for an appointment."

Fabian Holbe is one of ten general practitioners in the Northwest Mecklenburg district who are vaccinating against corona in their practices as part of a model experiment.

Appointments are still only available via the vaccination hotline and only for people with priority level 1. Whoever lives closer to Holbe's practice than the nearest vaccination center will be sent to him.

Very well, Mr. Kirsch, thank you very much.

In April at the latest, resident doctors should be involved in the vaccination campaign all over Germany.

This was decided by the Prime Minister's Conference on March 3rd.

Then those entitled to vaccinate should be able to make appointments with their family doctors on site.

“When we get to the point where we have enough vaccine that we can turn all doctor's offices into vaccination offices, then there's a huge, huge problem solved.

Because then we can simply say: People, get in touch with us.

You are over 70 or you have your risk group.

Then you can be vaccinated with us and then we can make the appointment. "

Holbe administered the vaccine from the manufacturer Biontech / Pfizer to around 24 people a day.

He first has to inject a saline solution into the vials that he receives.

Holbe:

“Then the manufacturer says you should swing it.

So don't shake it, really swivel it. "

Once the syringe has been drawn up, the dose should be stable for up to six hours at room temperature.

Holbe is still storing them in the refrigerator to be on the safe side.

“The Biontech vaccine is a little more complex than the Astra vaccine or a flu vaccine that comes as a pre-filled syringe.

It takes a little time and a quiet minute to really get those six doses of vaccine out of the bottle.

You have to be very careful with the vaccine, it is common knowledge.

But we've already done that in the nursing homes.

We can do that in a family doctor's practice. "

First, however, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and the federal states have to agree on precise rules: What remuneration do doctors get for vaccinations?

Which practice gets how much vaccine?

Then everyone should soon be able to get immunized from their family doctor as comfortably as the Hasse couple.

Holbe to the Hasse couple:

It itches a bit, it presses a bit, you can feel a bit sick afterwards, but it's not that bad.
