The number of

new corona infections

transmitted to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day

has again reached a high: The health authorities recently

reported 76,414

cases to

the RKI

in 24 hours.

Exactly one week ago there were 52,970 new infections.

The

RKI gave the

seven-day incidence

at

438.2

- also a maximum.

For comparison: the previous day the value was 419.7, a week ago it was 340.7 (previous month: 113.0).

This is evident from the figures that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:32 a.m.

According to the new information,

357 deaths were

recorded

across

Germany within 24 hours

.

A week ago there were 201 deaths.

The RKI has counted 5,650,170 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.

The

number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 population

within seven days was given by the RKI on Thursday at

5.79

(Wednesday: 5.74).

The value plays an essential role in assessing the occurrence of the infection.

If limit values 3, 6 and 9 are exceeded in the federal states, stricter measures to combat the pandemic can be imposed there.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered on Friday at 4,775,300.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 100,476.

It was only on Thursday that the RKI announced in its weekly report that in the fourth wave of corona there were a particularly large number of positive corona evidence on children and adolescents.

The seven-day incidence in the week up to last Sunday was more than twice as high in the 5 to 9 year olds (829) and in the 10 to 14 year olds (921) as the average for the population (414).

However, students are also tested for Corona particularly frequently.

Despite the rapid overall increase in the number of infections, the RKI did not change anything in its general risk assessment for the time being: The risk for those who have not been vaccinated or who have only been vaccinated once is still classified as "very high", the risk for those who have been completely vaccinated is therefore "moderate", but increases with increasing numbers of infections .

Worry about new virus variant B.1.1.529

Internationally, the spread of a new, possibly very dangerous variant of the coronavirus in southern Africa is currently causing concern.

Experts fear that variant B.1.1.529 is not only highly contagious due to an unusually large number of mutations, but could also penetrate the protective shield of the vaccines more easily.

Great Britain and Israel therefore restricted air traffic to the states in the region as a precaution.

The South African Institute for Infectious Diseases NICD announced on Thursday that only 22 cases of the new variant had been detected in South Africa.

More cases are to be expected in the course of the ongoing genome analyzes.

Health Secretary Joe Phaahla said the new variant confirms the "fact that this invisible enemy is very unpredictable."
