As scientists advance the development of vaccines to slow the spread of the disease, governments are facing outbreaks and the possibility of new closings.

With more than 4.2 million, 2.4 million, 390,000, 375,000 and 345,000 cases, respectively, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Chile are part of the ten countries with the highest number of infections in the world, making America the continent hardest hit by covid-19, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

This Sunday marks five months since Brazil reported its first confirmed case of the new coronavirus on February 26.

President Jair Bolsonaro tested negative for the virus on Saturday, his first negative test since testing positive on July 7. Mexico City reports more than 68,000 cases of covid-19 and is at an orange light for the return to normal phase. Several establishments have begun to open their doors.

The Chilean Ministry of Health announced on Friday that, starting this Tuesday, nine communes in the country will leave quarantine to enter a phase of "transition" towards lack of confidence.

The benefited communes are Colina, La Reina, Las Condes, Lo Barnechea, Ñuñoa, Til-til, Vitacura, San Antonio and San Felipe. The new stage allows the movement from Monday to Friday, outside the curfew. People will be able to go to work and move only between communes that are in transition and will not be able to enter the communes that are quarantined.

On the other hand, the Araucanía region will be the first to enter a more advanced phase, the “initial opening” stage, in which cinemas, restaurants and similar venues will be allowed to operate with up to 25% of their capacity. .

With the new record figure of 1,148 new confirmed cases of covid-19 this Sunday, Bolivia adds a total of 69,429 positive cases nationwide, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health.

2,583 deaths, 21,169 recovered patients, 11,932 suspected cases, and 67,496 cases were discarded, according to the report.
