As scientists advance the development of vaccines to slow the spread of the disease, governments are facing outbreaks and the possibility of new closings.
With more than 4.2 million, 2.4 million, 390,000, 375,000 and 345,000 cases, respectively, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Chile are part of the ten countries with the highest number of infections in the world, making America the continent hardest hit by covid-19, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
How is the rest of the region? Thus begins the week of July 27 in the Latin American countries hardest hit by the virus.

The Chilean Ministry of Health announced on Friday that, starting this Tuesday, nine communes in the country will leave quarantine to enter a phase of "transition" towards lack of confidence.
The benefited communes are Colina, La Reina, Las Condes, Lo Barnechea, Ñuñoa, Til-til, Vitacura, San Antonio and San Felipe. The new stage allows the movement from Monday to Friday, outside the curfew.
