The numbers have started to rise again.
This Thursday, Public Health France recorded a total of 7,236 Covid-19 patients treated in hospital following an infection, against 7,208 on Wednesday, and 6,832 last Thursday.
After a slight decline during the month of July, the number of patients in critical care has risen above the 1,000 mark, with 1,015 serious cases on Thursday.
They were 992 Wednesday, and 868 last Thursday.
29 new deaths were also recorded, bringing the total of Covid-19 deaths to 11,797 in France since the start of the epidemic.
Nearly 4.2 million deaths worldwide
The pandemic has killed at least 4,190,383 people around the world since the end of December 2019, according to a report established by AFP from official sources Thursday at noon.
The United States is the country with the most deaths (611,801), ahead of Brazil (553,179), India (422,662), Mexico (239,616) and Peru (196,138).
The WHO estimates, taking into account the excess mortality directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19, that the toll of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that which is officially established.
