Covid-19: in tourist Finistère, wearing a mask is once again compulsory

In order to fight against the epidemic, 22 municipalities in the region are reimposed to wear masks from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Return of the mask to the Breton point.

The prefect of Finistère announced on Monday the return of the compulsory mask wearing in about twenty tourist towns.

On the Breton coast, these densely populated areas have the mask imposed from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

At issue: the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The cities concerned are in particular those of Morlaix, Quimper or Brest, but with exceptions in certain areas, such as the beaches.

This new prefectural decree is taken "in the face of the persistent risk of contamination in dense places", according to the prefecture.

It points to the risk of gatherings and "prolonged contacts in town centers" without respecting barrier gestures, particularly in "certain areas of high density tourist towns".

Since the end of June, the health situation has deteriorated in the department.

Finistère is experiencing a “significant increase in the incidence rate”.

It went from "19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on June 30 to 90 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on July 30," recalls the prefecture in its press release.

She also stresses that this measure is taken in the face of the risks associated with the mixing of populations during the summer, France attracting many tourists this year.

Failure to comply with the obligation to wear a mask is liable to be punished with a fine of 135 euros.

In Brittany, the prefects of Morbihan and Côtes-d'Armor had already decided on Friday to extend the obligation to wear a mask in the two Breton departments, in particular in seaside resorts.
