While the number of Covid patients in intensive care is approaching the “6,000” bar but the number of deaths has decreased, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced this Sunday the opening of vaccination for all over 55 years as well as dose spacing for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

New increase in intensive care
This Sunday, 5,838 Covid patients were treated in intensive care, against 5,769 on Saturday, an increase of 69 in 24 hours (and 497 over a week).
286 new patients were admitted this Sunday, 16 more than Saturday.

The number of hospitalized Covid patients is also increasing: 30,671 this Sunday (+433 in 24 hours).
1305 patients were admitted to hospital (+81 compared to Saturday).
Slight decrease in hospital deaths
The daily number of hospital deaths, however, fell slightly to 178 on Sunday (-7 from Saturday).
Since the start of the epidemic, 72,226 people have died in hospital.
France is approaching the milestone of 100,000 deaths (more than 98,000 on Saturday) including the deaths in nursing homes.

The number of new contaminations in the last 24 hours is also down to 34,895 (against 43,284 on Saturday).
These figures must nevertheless be taken with caution as the statistics are generally lower on weekends for reasons related to the reporting of information.
Only 200,000 people vaccinated this Sunday
While, on Friday, France had reached the daily record of more than 500,000, the result of this Sunday is more mixed with 204,221 injections.
A total of 10.76 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Vaccines from Monday for over 55s
The vaccination will be open from this Monday, April 12 to all French people aged 55 or over, announced the Minister of Health Olivier Véran.
He explained that this would be possible thanks to two vaccines, that of AstraZeneca that "
from tomorrow [Monday], all French people over 55, without conditions, will be able to receive
", and that of Johnson & Johnson, delivered in France as of Monday, proposed, "
for consistency and concern for efficiency, to all over 55, without conditions
".

The Minister also announced "
the spacing of the two doses of messenger RNA vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna
".
“
As of April 14, for all first injections, we will be offering a booster at 42 days instead of the current 28.
It will allow us to vaccinate faster without seeing a reduction in protection,
”he explained.

Chinese vaccines with "low" efficacy
The currently available vaccines "
do not have a very high level of protection
," admitted this Saturday Gao Fu, director of the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at a conference in the Chinese city of Chengdu.
The senior official announced that his country was considering injecting vaccines of different types against Covid-19, in order to strengthen their effectiveness.
