With more than 2.3 million cases of Covid-19 infections and 67,676 deaths, South Africa is paying the price for a vaccination campaign that started late, hard-to-acquire stocks and stubborn variants.
After having experienced two very deadly waves between July 2020 and last June, the most affected country on the African continent is currently hit by a third wave.

While the opposition criticized the ANC (African National Congress), in power, for its slowness in the vaccination campaigns, the Head of State wanted to be reassuring:
“To date, 4.2 million people received one dose of vaccine, including 1 million in the past seven days.
The vaccination rate has more than doubled last month and will continue to accelerate, ”
said Cyril Ramaphosa on July 11.
