Covid-19: still nearly 6,000 patients in intensive care

The number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care was up slightly this Sunday, still at just under 6,000, according to figures published by Public Health France.

Elsewhere in the world, the situation continues to deteriorate in India, which now represents nearly 40% of new contaminations recorded on the planet.

Slight increase in intensive care

In total, there were 5,978 people in critical care services (which include resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring) against 5,958 patients the day before.

In 24 hours, 218 patients were admitted to these services which treat the most serious cases, against 348 patients the day before.

For ten days, the number of patients in intensive care has been close to 6000. A figure below the peak of the first wave in April 2020 (around 7000) but higher than that of the second wave in the fall (4900) .

Decrease in the number of deaths

The total number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients is 30,287 against 30,100 on Saturday.

881 people have been hospitalized in the past 24 hours compared to 1,368.

Regarding deaths, 145 people died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, against 220 the day before.

The epidemic in India reaches new heights

India, which has 1.3 billion inhabitants, is in the grip of a new outbreak of contamination by Covid-19.

This Sunday, it identified over 24 hours nearly 350,000 cases and 2,767 additional deaths.

Its health system is crumbling under the flood of patients, who face a lack of hospital beds, oxygen reserves and life-saving medicines.

The United Kingdom and the European Union have announced the sending of sanitary equipment to the country which now accounts for nearly 40% of new contaminations in the world.

Greece passes 10,000 dead milestone

Greece exceeded 10,000 deaths from Covid-19 this Sunday since the start of the epidemic, according to the daily report made public by the national public health body (Eody).

Despite the confinement accompanied by a night curfew imposed since November, hospitals are filled beyond their capacity to accommodate people infected with the coronavirus.

The Edy has recorded 1,400 new cases of Covid-19 and 57 additional deaths since Saturday, bringing their total number to 333,129 and 10,007 respectively.

In addition, 816 people are currently in intensive care.
