Covid-19: the number of tests goes back above the 2 million mark in one week

2022-06-30T13:20:52.580Z

Visible in all age groups, the increase in demand reached 32% compared to last week, notes the Drees.

It is a symbol of the epidemic rebound: as the contaminations multiply, the French go more and more to their pharmacies and laboratories to be tested.

According to the latest data from the DREES, attached to the Ministry of Health, last week, the bar of two million samples was again crossed, for the first time since the beginning of May.

In detail, 2.15 million tests were validated by a health professional in seven days, of which more than half - 58.7% - antigenic.

This balance sheet is up by 525,000 compared to the previous week, a notable jump of 32%.

The increase is visible in all age groups, exceeding 30% among those under 16, 16-25, 26-40 and 41-65.

Similarly, the number of saliva tests is also increasing in young children under 11 years old.

In total, France has recorded more than 300 million test results in two years, an impressive record, which has cost more than ten billion euros.

For now, the new wave of Covid is spreading at high speed across the territory.

On average, more than 71,000 cases are counted each day, against less than 20,000 at the beginning of the month.

For the time being, the executive is procrastinating, contenting itself with advising the French to put the mask back on public transport, without making it compulsory.

"

It seems logical to recommend again the wearing of the mask for the oldest, the most fragile, [...] in particular in places of promiscuity, in public transport

", commented the president of the scientific council, Jean -François Delfraissy, this Thursday morning.

The situation remains closely observed by the authorities, while the hospital emerges bloodless from two years of health crisis.

In July, the Parliament, convened in extraordinary session, must in particular study a "

bill temporarily maintaining a monitoring and health security system in the fight against covid-19

": the government is therefore not lowering its guard against the pandemic.
