This suspension should have ended on March 31. It will ultimately remain active until June 1.

Faced with the resurgence of the epidemic, the executive is adapting its mechanisms.

In a decree published in the official journal, one of the tools to strengthen the immediate isolation of workers who test positive for Covid-19 has been extended.

Concretely, the decree of April 2 extends the suspension of the waiting day for civil servants who test positive for Covid-19.

This concerns civil and military public officials, as well as certain employees, covered by a special social security scheme.

In theory, the suspension should have ended on March 31: it will therefore continue until “

June 1, 2021

”.

In December, Minister Amélie de Montchalin announced this measure, which had been debated in Parliament.

This suspension aims to "

restore a balance

" with employees in the private sector, for whom a legislative provision already exists: in the private sector, the work stoppage for Covid is in fact already compensated without a waiting day.

The elimination of the deficiency day must also make it possible to break the chains of contamination, by pushing the agents to isolate themselves from the result of the test.

The waiting day, which results in a loss of remuneration for public officials in the event of a work stoppage, is not financially compensated, unlike the private one.

He had been suspended during the first confinement and then reinstated after the end of the state of health emergency on July 10.
