Hospital pressure remains very strong in France, despite positive signals.
With 2,815 new hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, the total number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients continues to climb.
It stands this Monday at 25,776 people, against 24,887 on Sunday and 22,749 seven days ago.
Among them, 355 have been admitted to critical care in the past 24 hours, the units reserved for the most severe cases, against 119 the day before.
A total of 3,913 patients occupy a bed in these services on Monday.
They were already 3852 on Sunday and 3904 a week earlier.
More than 127,000 dead
According to numerous data, the Omicron variant would be more transmissible than its predecessor Delta and also seems to cause fewer serious forms of the disease (without knowing to what extent this is due to its characteristics or to the fact that the population is already partly immunized by vaccination or previous infections).
For all these reasons, specialists consider it possible that Omicron saturates less resuscitation since it causes less serious forms, while weighing heavily on hospital beds in general.
"The worst-case scenario is moving away, the decline has begun", commented this Monday morning on France Inter the epidemiologist at the Pasteur Institute Arnaud Fontanet, member of the scientific council.
Public Health France also records 298 new deaths from Covid-19 occurring in hospital over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of victims since the start of the epidemic to 127,265 people in France.
