The daily report of Public Health France confirms the "fulgurance" of this fifth wave, while the government should announce

"We need a collective mobilization" if we want to "save the end of year celebrations," Gabriel Attal recalled on Wednesday at the end of the Health Defense Council.

"Our objectives are to rely on vaccination, the health pass, barrier gestures so as not to have to come back to measures that impact collective life," said the government spokesperson, while Olivier Véran will detail tomorrow the measures to fight against this fifth wave which continues to emerge according to the latest daily figures.

32,591

new cases were recorded on Wednesday by Public Health France, the highest total since April 24, against 30,454 on Tuesday.

A milestone was crossed this week when there were 20,294 new daily contaminations last Wednesday.

"The national incidence rate should exceed 200 by tomorrow or the day after tomorrow," also said Gabriel Attal this morning, while it stands today at 193.2.

770 new hospital admissions

At the hospital, 8,765 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated, according to new figures from Public Health France.

They were 8 525 yesterday and 7 663 last Wednesday in hospitals which recorded 770 new admissions throughout France in the last 24 hours against 759

yesterday and 525 last Wednesday.

In addition, 1,483 people considered to be "serious cases" are currently in critical care compared to 1,455 yesterday, and 1,300 seven days ago.

A total of 80 new deaths linked to Covid-19 have also been recorded in the last 24 hours (84

yesterday).

There is a wish "not to put pressure on the French who are vaccinated and have their health pass but rather on those who have chosen not to be vaccinated," also said Gabriel Attal this morning.

According to health authorities, 103,619,600 injections have been carried out since the start of the vaccination campaign in France.

51,805,728 people have received at least one injection (ie 76.8% of the total population) and 50,722,228 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (ie 75.2% of the total population).

As a reminder last week 74.9% of the total population had a complete vaccination schedule.

A total of 319,173 doses have been injected over the past 24 hours.

Finally, the booster injections are progressing slowly: 240,000 booster shots were administered in 24 hours yesterday, against 212,000 the previous Monday.

Among the measures that the government could take to counter this fifth wave, is mentioned the opening of the booster dose to a larger part of the population.

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) paved the way for this solution in a report released on Wednesday.

"The available evidence from Israel and the United Kingdom shows a significant increase in protection against infections and serious illness after a booster dose in all age groups in the short term", insisted the European body .

The acceleration of the booster campaign "goes through several tracks", including the booster for all over 18 or the reduction from six to five months before doing the booster dose, confirmed Gabriel Attal.
