While hospitalizations passed the 7,000 mark on Monday evening (7,079 patients), the health authorities counted 7,208 this Wednesday, against 7,137 Tuesday and 6,869 seven days ago.
Some 490 patients have been admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours for infection with SARS-CoV-2 or its variants.
At the same time, critical care services received 91 new patients in 24 hours, compared to 121 on Tuesday and 64 last Wednesday.
In total, 992 people are hospitalized in critical care, against 978 Tuesday and 859 a week ago.
Public Health France also counts 40 deaths that have occurred in hospital in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to more than 111,730 since the start of the epidemic in the country.
Contamination on the rise
Contamination is on an upward slope.
The outbreak is particularly marked in tourist areas: the mask is again compulsory outdoors (excluding beaches or parks) on the Atlantic coast of the Vendée to the Spanish border.
Restrictions (bars closed at midnight, masks in "dense spaces") have also been imposed in Haute Corse and in the Alpes-Maritimes.
To cope with too strong an increase, the government is counting on vaccination.
This Wednesday the Modern vaccine was authorized for 12-17 year olds by the High Authority for Health.
Pfizer's serum had already been cleared, while at the hospital, doctors were dealing with young patients "with no history and not vaccinated."
France crossed the threshold of 50% of people on Tuesday with a complete vaccination schedule (two doses, or a single dose if the person has already had Covid or if they are vaccinated with a single-dose product).
Even if this level remains far from the collective immunity threshold estimated at around 90% with the Delta variant.
