It is "probable that Omicron is already circulating with us," the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, warned this Sunday, while officially no case has yet been detected in France.

"We can fear that this new variant is at least as contagious as Delta," he added.

"We know that we are now engaged in a race against time," confessed for her part the President of the European Commission, while cases are increasing in Europe.

In France, it is in this context that the epidemic is gaining ground ...

According to the latest data from Public Health France, published this Sunday, 9,381 patients are currently hospitalized due to a Covid-19 infection.

There were 9,271 on Saturday and 8,038 a week ago, Sunday, November 21.

To compare, there were on October 31, also the last Sunday of the month, 6,572 people hospitalized.

In the past 24 hours, 224 new admissions have been recorded, compared to 338 on Saturday and 158 last Sunday.

Among the hospitalized patients, 1,632 are in critical care (resuscitation, intensive care or continuous monitoring).

This is 15 more than Saturday (1,617) and 293 more than last Sunday (1,339).

42 new admissions have been recorded in the past 24 hours, against 27 last Sunday.

On October 31, there were just under 1,050 people in these services.

31,648 new contaminations

The number of Covid-19 deaths in France continues to climb.

23 people have died in the past 24 hours, reports Public Health France this Sunday.

There were 34 over the same period on Saturday and 15 last Sunday.

Contamination remains at record levels.

The threshold of 30,000 contaminations per day was crossed at the start of the week.

Thus, in the last 24 hours, 31,648 new cases have been identified against 37,218 on Saturday, 19,749 last Sunday.

6,329 contaminations had been recorded over the same period on the last Sunday in October.

Note, however, that the figures for the weekend and in particular for Sunday are generally underestimated due to the closure of pharmacies and laboratories.

Faced with the resurgence of the epidemic, the vaccination campaign is continuing.

In just under a year, 51,912,449 people have received at least one injection of the Covid-19 vaccine (i.e. 77% of the total population) and 50,827,074 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 75.4% of the total population).

Since the start of the booster campaign, open to everyone since Saturday, 7,233,042 people have received a booster dose.
