Cruise ships will not see the French West Indies again this year

The France Maritime Committee has decided to postpone by two months the resumption of cruises in Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Initially scheduled for November 15, the resumption of cruises in Guadeloupe and Martinique has been postponed to January 15, as revealed by La 1ère.

The health protocols put in place by the companies did not convince the authorities, who announced the decision during a meeting of the France Maritime Committee.

In particular, the low vaccination rate in the two islands.

Only 44% of the adult population has received at least one dose of vaccine in Guadeloupe and 33% of those over 12 have a complete vaccination schedule in Martinique.

At the beginning of October, tourism stakeholders in overseas territories were determined to relaunch the industry.

According to Seto, reservations for the French West Indies this winter reached 79% of their 2019 volume. In Guadeloupe, the cruise season alone generates just over 7% of direct or indirect maritime jobs.
