The Umm al-Zaytoun town council in Suwayda started planting 50 dunums of irrigated wheat for the current season, as part of the agricultural investment project, which succeeded in its first trial for the last season.
The head of Umm al-Zaytoun council, Qahtan Shalghin, explained in a statement to SANA reporter today that the necessary watering is provided for the areas that are cultivated through the drip irrigation network, in order to obtain production that generates self-revenue that will reflect positively on the services provided to citizens.
Şelgin indicated that the investment project for wheat cultivation launched by the council last year under a subsidy from the independent budget of the governorate is in line with the direction of the administrative units to establish investment projects that serve the local development process and is the first of its kind at the level of administrative units in the governorate and the country.
The Umm al-Zaytoun investment project for cultivating irrigated wheat last year produced about 10 tons of lands that were cultivated in Majadel village on an area of 50 dunums.
