More than one in two French people followed the Grande Boucle this summer. Increased popularity among the youngest, according to a study conducted by Cofid

Who said that the Tour de France did not interest young people?

The biggest cycling event in the world is attracting more and more new generations.

More than three weeks after the last edition of the Grande Boucle, which ended on the Champs-Élysées on July 24, with the triumph of Dane Vingegaard, Cofidis and the company Dentsu Data Labs publish a study on "audience and consumption of the Tour de France”.

The results of the study, conducted among 1,000 people, ensure that 55% of French people "have followed from near or far" the last edition of the queen of stage races.

A share that rises to 65% among 18-34 year olds.

Young people are also the most assiduous.

According to the study, 21% of 18-24 year olds "have followed all the stages of the tour", and up to 27% among 25-34 year olds.

By comparison, only 18% of the oldest did the same.

An assiduity which therefore allowed them to follow from start to finish the coronation of the Dane Jonas Vingegaard.

But the Tour de France, like any great sporting competition, is above all about emotions.

"The feeling of love remains the emotion most felt by fans with 33%, followed by anger and joy at 22% each," says the study.

Viewers may have screamed their happiness during the only French victory of Christophe Laporte during the 19th stage, or in front of the multiple exploits of the Belgian Wout van Aert.

Sadness and fear were felt by 16% and 7% of respondents.

Emotions may also be present in front of the Tour de France Women, which succeeded the men's edition.

44% of French people say they have followed it, "at least in part", and in particular 57% of those under 35.

On television, 19.8 million people watched at least one minute of women's racing on France TV.

A more than encouraging score for the rebirth of the Tour de France Women.
