The head of the Cyprus Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Petros Aganthilo, called on the European Union to lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people by the European Union and the United States.

In a letter to the European Commission’s representative in Nicosia entitled “Supporting the Syrian Medical Community,” Aganthilo said: “The Cyprus Doctors Syndicate supports the efforts of the medical community in Syria, especially in light of the spread of the Coronavirus and the shortage of equipment that causes great loss of life and calls on the European Commission to consider raising Punishments are for humanitarian, health and medical reasons. ”

He pointed out that "these sanctions have a negative impact on health care issues and cause more suffering, especially in light of this epidemic."

For their part, the members of the Syrian community in the State of Kuwait called on the European Union to “take urgent measures to end the economic blockade and unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, which were directly reflected in securing the basic life requirements of food, medicine, electricity and heating, especially in light of difficult circumstances. Caused by the spread of the Corona epidemic. ”

In a message to the European Commission, members of the community stressed the need to respect the choices of the Syrian people in determining their future, elect their leadership without any dictates, and work to restore diplomatic relations with the legitimate government and open direct communication channels with it with the aim of ending the suffering of the Syrian people who have faced international terrorism and its economic tools for ten years.

In a similar message, the community members called Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican, to urgently move to end the suffering of our people as a result of the terrorist war supported by the West and the Western economic blockade imposed on it.

In turn, the Syrians Association in South Africa sent a letter to the European Union Commission in Johannesburg calling for the immediate lifting of the unilateral Western coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

The League affirmed in its message that these coercive measures “chronicled their negative effects on the daily life of millions of Syrians who are unable to secure the minimum requirements of basic daily life, and the difficulty of the difficult health conditions resulting from the outbreak of the Corona epidemic and the inability to provide the necessary means to address it, such as medicines and equipment. Medical and respiratory equipment and others because of the sanctions imposed on Syria.

The message added: “The blockade even included humanitarian aid. Despite European claims that its unilateral coercive measures allow sending such aid to Syria, the reality of the situation is not the same, given that foreign companies refrain from dealing with Syrian companies for fear that European and American sanctions will affect them. What prevents aid from actually reaching the Syrian people ”.

The Association sent a copy of this letter also to a number of official bodies in South Africa, including the National Assembly “Parliament”, the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation in South Africa, the African National Congress, the Party of Combatants for Economic Freedom, the South African Communist Party, the National Congress Party Youth League and the Association of former detainees in Robben Island, the South African Trade Union Conference and the Boycott Israel movement.
