The car manufacturer Daimler wants to do more to secure valuable raw materials and use them again.
This was announced by CEO Ola Källenius at an industry conference of the »Handelsblatt«.
"We will also build a recycling factory ourselves so that we can master this technology and be able to do so." The Swedish top manager did not provide any details about the factory.
Daimler wants to gradually increase the proportion of recycled parts in its cars, announced Källenius.
He also addressed battery cells.
In the case of electric cars, it should be possible to use them again or to recycle them.
Daimler is working with partners in this area.
"Great progress has been made there," said the Daimler boss.
At the IAA auto show, BMW had already announced that half of the Group's cars would be made from recycled material in the future.
In July, Daimler had signaled significantly more ambition for the breakthrough of its own e-fleet.
With this strategy, the manufacturer heralds the farewell to the internal combustion engine.
The entire Mercedes-Benz business is to be geared towards electric driving.
According to earlier information, the Swabians want to achieve around 50 percent of their new sales with fully electric or plug-in cars in 2025.
In Stuttgart, people are also preparing to “become fully electric” by the end of the decade - wherever “market conditions allow”.
For this purpose, cell production is to be set up on a large scale.
Chip crisis also in 2022
At the “Handelsblatt” conference, Källenius also said that the chip crisis will continue into the coming year.
The situation with semiconductors is "very volatile" and sometimes characterized by uncertainty and volatility, said Källenius.
According to Källenius, the largest chip manufacturers report that supply and demand will not balance each other out in the coming year either.
"It will definitely keep us busy in the 2022 calendar year."
From July to the end of September, Daimler had to cut production several times, mainly because of the lack of chips.
Both in the passenger car and in the truck sector, many vehicles are almost finished in the dump because individual chips are still missing.
According to earlier information from Daimler, these can be built and delivered quickly as soon as the missing parts are there.
