A bunch of primary school students with parents is waiting at the zebra crossing.
A car whizzes by.
A second one afterwards.
Somehow no one stops even for the crowd of people that cannot be overlooked.
Then finally: the crossing is done.
Today at noon, tomorrow morning, tomorrow at noon: it will go on like this every day.
Iris Sass is the mother of a first grader.
She is annoyed about the behavior of the car drivers: “They should be more attentive and look better.” Alone: That is of course difficult at 60 km / h.
Hardly anyone rumbled slower into the roundabout that is so big that it can be driven relatively straight ahead with a swing.
Mama Angelika Kees tried it out: "You can drive straight ahead over the roundabout at almost any point here."
Signs and bushes block the view
Another problem: Even if the children have made it over the zebra crossing to the crossing aid, the next challenge is waiting there.
Large signs and bushes block the driver's view of the children.
It is the other way around: "The signs on the island are so big that the children cannot look over them," says father Martin Kästl.
To see if a car is coming, “they would have to go to the curb”.
Another problem point: the sidewalk opposite the Sesar bakery: there, the children often fail to see that it is a sidewalk - as such it is neither demarcated nor marked.
Or else parked, the parents complain.
Parents offer themselves to help out to school
The parents concerned have already offered to take turns at the difficult crossing point as a kind of school help.
And the community is also considering some details.
"We look at whether you have to pave on the roundabout yourself," says Mayor Peter Ostenrieder.
Slowing down motorists - maybe even at 30 km / h, “we won't get around that”.
Because: "The driver is the problem here, not the zebra crossing."
Incidentally, the municipality had created this as a safety plus - actually, only a normal pedestrian crossing is possible with such a road crossing.
And, for the zebra crossing, the following applies: If you exit the roundabout, you have to give the pedestrian priority, Ostrieder quotes from the road traffic regulations.
The building yard should now take first measures and cut back the planting on the crossing aids.
And what about the unmarked sidewalk across from the Sesar bakery?
Parking is prohibited at this point and in front of the bakery itself.
Because some motorists do not adhere to this, the municipality has even thought about steel posts with chains to seal off the sidewalks.
But because the square should actually be an open space, people resisted it for a long time for optical reasons, says the community chief and appeals to the common sense of drivers.
