The municipal kindergarten on Daserweg in Penzberg has been a major construction site since last summer.

The first phase of construction is progressing.

But the million dollar project will be more expensive than planned, as it became known in the latest building committee meeting.

Penzberg - three years of construction in three construction phases: This is the plan for the expansion, renovation and conversion of the municipal kindergarten. The city council decided on the construction measure in April 2020. The total costs were estimated at around 4.16 million euros. However, unforeseen but necessary additional work as well as recommendations from the responsible planner Christian Holzer for further measures will now increase the costs by around 260,000 euros, as became known in the most recent building committee meeting.

Specifically, the cost increase affects the first construction phase of the project.

As reported, a three-storey new building with 600 square meters of usable space is being built next to the old main entrance.

There is room for a crib group, a pram room and a kitchen on the ground floor.

A creative room, a library and the technology are planned in the basement, which is to become a full basement, as well as staff rooms and a parents' consultation room on the upper floor.

Sub-project "in the middle of the Corona period" has been started

"We are happy that we are where we are," said Holzer, summarizing the progress on the construction site. After all, the sub-project was started "in the middle of the Corona period" last year. It is true that there were delays on the construction site due to unforeseen earthworks and the long winter. But the first phase of construction should be completed in autumn and the new building should be ready for occupancy. "We no longer expect any major obstacles."

However, Holzer informed the committee members, among other things, the earthworks that were not factored in, as well as unplanned renovation measures and the operator's wishes with regard to future furnishing in the new extension building would increase the costs.

As an example of the unplanned earthworks, Holzer named coal and rock finds in the ground, among other things.

"The earthworks were very complex." A further increase in costs is caused by the sharp rise in wood prices.

Additional costs for furnishing the new building

In addition, Holzer recommended that the committee members tackle certain renovation work in the neighboring existing building right now, since this is "necessary maintenance work" anyway. As an example, the planner from Wolfratshausen mentioned a new facade painting for the old building - in a color matching the new building - as well as a uniform design of the transition zones in both houses. Holzer pointed out that the required specialist companies were already on site due to the new construction and renovation, which is why the commissioning of this additional work is an option at this point in time.

Further additional costs would arise from furnishing the new building.

The operator has now expressed very specific requests for this, but these are above the original cost estimate for the furniture.

"The kindergarten will then be quite fully equipped," promised Holzer.

Without long discussions, the building committee members took note of the unforeseen measures and the associated increase in costs and unanimously agreed to carry out the additional work on the existing building.
