The 62-year-old female head of the household, Leung Kam-lan, died in a fire in Xinxing Garden in Tai Po. Her 31-year-old son, Ng Cheuk-wai, fell to his death. The police classified the case as suicide and manslaughter.
Preliminary investigations suspected that someone had set fire to the house and attempted suicide and fell from the unit; the mother could not escape and was rescued from the fire and sent to the hospital for treatment.
Today (24th), relatives and friends of the deceased went to the public mortuary in Toshan to recognize the body, and left after completing the procedures.
One of the male relatives said the incident is pending police investigation.
A man fell from the height of the building, and ambulancemen arrived to confirm his death and his body was covered in white cloth.

The incident occurred at 3:39 a.m. on Sunday (23rd), and a fire broke out in a unit on the middle floor of Hongcheng Court, Xinxing Garden, No. 2, On Puli, Tai Po. There was an explosion sound, and a window grille flew from the unit to the ground. The explosion alarmed many nearby residents to call the police.
Firefighters rescued the 62-year-old female householder Liang Jinlan from the unit, but she was unconscious when she was rescued, with blackened face and burns on her left hand. He jumped from the room and fell to the platform of the building, unconscious, and died on the spot.
The mother and son were killed in the fire in Xinxing Garden in Tai Po. The police classified it as manslaughter and suicide. Relatives and friends (second from left) identified the bodies and said they were awaiting investigation by the police.
