The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, confirmed this Saturday the detection of the first case of the delta variant of covid-19 in the country.

The president indicated during a press conference that the National Institute of Health (INS) identified the variant in the city of Cali and that the patient is being treated with all protocols.

For her part, the director of the INS, Marta Ospina, explained that this case is about a person who traveled to the United States and returned in early July with symptoms of the disease.

Ospina added that the person has been kept in isolation since then.

"It reminds us once again of the importance of isolation and compliance with the protocol. That is, the control of the chains of contacts, minimizing the possibility of propagation, which effectively allows the speed of transmission," said the director of the INS .
