It was a nightmare before it started - a flood at the river festival.

It didn't get that bad.

Marlene Schretzenmaier draws a positive conclusion because the flexibility of the organizers saved a lot.

Wolfratshausen - The Wolfratshausen River Festival ended on Sunday evening with the appearance of Django Asül.

It's still too early to drop the cash register, but festival director Marlene Schretzenmaier can draw a first conclusion - and finally sleep peacefully again.

Two appearances were postponed due to flooding

It wasn't as bad as in her nightmares. A few days before the start of the river festival, Marlene Schretzenmaier had a terrible night. She dreamed of a torrential flood on the old raft landing. Compared to this idea, Loisachstadt got away with a black eye. Only two concerts had to be rescheduled because of the flood. The organizers showed flexibility in the performances of Laith Al-Deen, who sang in the Loisachhalle, and Dominik Halamek, whose musical show took place in the school playground on Hammerschmiedweg. "For me personally, the two evenings were even the highlights this year," says Schretzenmaier in an interview with our newspaper. "There was a really good atmosphere there." And that although the move only took place a few hours before the admission. The water management office in Weilheim had banned the two appearances on the floating stage due to high water.

The weather was generally not good for the festival.

Most of the concert evenings were rainy.

“Of course it would have been nicer if the weather had been better,” says the cultural manager.

She is all the happier that most of the events were still sold out.

“We only had a few spectators on a few evenings”.

The slapstick duo “Luggi & Guggi”, for example, only played in front of around 60 guests in the marquee.

The weather will also be a component that we have to plan with at the next festivals

The tent was the corona-compliant alternative to the opera tent, which is visually reminiscent of the opera house in Sydney, Australia. The change paid off: “The feedback from the visitors was good. It was cozy and everyone had a permanent seat. ”Another advantage:“ Everyone stayed dry in the tent. ”In the Opera-Tent, the spectators in the front rows went home with at least wet legs. So is the tent an option for the future? “Good question,” says the 31-year-old. She would like to let the impressions sink in first. But: “The weather will also be a component that we have to plan with at the next festivals.” Perhaps not as extreme as in the past few weeks, “but it can always rain and storm”. It is all the more important to be flexible.

Fewer spectators due to Corona - high construction costs: the festival remains in deficit

Schretzenmaier and her colleagues have proven that.

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner explicitly praised this strength of the team on the last evening.

The town hall employee has not yet made a cash fall.

It was already clear beforehand: There would be no black zero.

"We had fewer spectators because of the pandemic regulations," says the festival director.

With two moves and a longer setup there are additional costs.

But after 14 busy days and nights, Schretzenmaier is now hoping for some sleep. "I was still awake after the last concert and it took me a long time to get down," she says - in this case not because of a nightmare. “There were so many beautiful impressions that I had to let go.”
