The Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Muhammad Hassan Qatna, Water Resources, Tammam Raad, and Electricity, Ghassan Al-Zamil, discussed in the Caretaker Government the agricultural production plan for the 2021-2022 agricultural season.

Minister Qatana explained that today's meeting set the organizational and executive frameworks for the agricultural production plan, which depends on the population's needs for food and the needs of the ministries of industry, internal and foreign trade for agricultural products.

Qatana pointed out that the areas covered by the plan were determined to know the requirements for its implementation and production estimation, thus linking it to the issue of the commodity balance to determine the surplus and deficit of each agricultural product, pointing to the announcement of the plan early so that other ministries could provide production requirements and organize their work so that all requirements were available at the beginning of October of this year To cultivate the areas covered by the plan.

For his part, the Minister of Water Resources stated that the production plan for this year was elaborated in a well-thought-out manner in coordination with the relevant ministries and the Farmers' Union, pointing to the need to take into account the climatic changes in the region.

The Minister of Electricity stated that all stations that feed agricultural crops irrigation pumps are permanently exempt from rationing, while encouraging the use of renewable energies to pump well water, pointing to coordination directly with the Ministry of Agriculture to secure the needs of farmers during frost waves.

For his part, the head of the General Union of Farmers, Ahmed Saleh Ibrahim, stated that the challenges facing the agricultural sector are many this year, including the climatic conditions and the lack of production requirements, pointing to the importance of securing production requirements in a timely manner according to the available capabilities and the participation of the public and private sectors. Ibrahim called for resorting to successive cultivations for cotton And sugar beet, as well as for crops and fodder crops, and that the price is fair to the farmer in a way that guarantees him a decent life.

Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Water Resources in the People's Assembly, Dr. Muhammad Kardoush, saw that the plan was good, wishing it would be fully implemented and the basic production requirements would be secured.

In turn, the Director General of the Forest Development Authority, Eng. Awfa Wassouf, referred to the development of the agricultural plan of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest, according to the use of land, available water resources, and the priority of field crops.

Participants in the meeting stressed the need to identify alternatives to energy and pay attention to olive, fig, citrus and fodder crops, and that the private sector should have an active participation in the matter of securing production requirements.

The meeting was attended by the assistants of the ministers of agriculture, industry and water resources in the caretaker government, the head of the Federation of Chambers of Agriculture and the directors of agriculture in the governorates.
