2019-10-06T08:44:18.534Z

At the US Open Novak Djokovic had to give up because of injury. In his comeback in Tokyo, the Serb has now won sovereign - and gained important points in the world rankings.

Only one success is missing now, to catch up with John McEnroe after tournament victories: Novak Djokovic has won the tournament in Tokyo for the first time in his career. In the final, the world ranking first defeated the Australian John Milman 6: 3, 6: 2. Throughout the tournament, the Serb did not give a single sentence. For Milman it was only the second final of his career.

As in the previous games, Djokovic dominated from the start. The 32-year-old played aggressively and went early with a break in the lead. In the second set he took Milman off twice his serve and turned after 1:10 hours his first match point. Djokovic also scored important points in the world ranking in the $ 2 million tournament.

Also in Shanghai the top favorite on the title

In the ranking he is now with more than 1000 points ahead of Rafael Nadal in first place. Roger Federer follows in third place with more than 3000 points behind. Nadal will miss a wrist injury injury at the Masters in Shanghai starting Monday. Thus, Djokovic, who had won the tournament last year, could continue to sell.

The 16-time Grand Slam winner is next to Federer and US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev as the favorite. Alexander Zverev, who has recently improved a lot after a disappointing season at the parallel tournament in Beijing, also sees opportunities. In the Chinese capital, Zverev defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem from Austria (13.30 clock) duel in the final.

Tsitsipas could also come close to a big goal with a win: In order to qualify for the ATP finals in London (10 to 17 November), the Greeks still needs around 700 world ranking points. So far, only Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Medvedev and Thiem have qualified for the unofficial tennis World Cup.
