Parsley is a vegetable that we tend to take a little for granted - it doesn't get the superfood aura that greens like kale and spinach get and it's kind of "always been there" and never got any special attention.

Despite this, it is still considered a vegetable that is very common in refrigerators, and many use it to season stews, soups and salads.

We decided to turn the spotlight on parsley and check what health benefits can be derived from it, and we discovered that there are quite a few of them:

1. Reduces inflammation

Inflammation is one of the most harmful general symptoms, because it is a contributing factor to the development of a number of medical conditions and weakens the body.

Parsley has many antioxidants such as vitamin C, A, and E that help reduce inflammation, and flavonoids that reduce the risk of many chronic diseases including cancer, arteriosclerosis, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and more.

2. Strengthens the bones

Parsley has vitamin K, in fact an amount of about ten stalks will provide you with the recommended daily quota of the vitamin.

Ensuring a sufficient intake of vitamin K protects the bones from fractures, because this vitamin is responsible for the protein used for bone building and blood clotting.

3. Prevents wrinkles and benefits the skin

Eating parsley may benefit the appearance of the skin.

It is rich in vitamin C, which is necessary for the production of collagen in the body.

Collagen is the substance that creates the structure and elasticity of the skin and helps smooth fine wrinkles.

4. Aids digestion

Parsley aids digestion and also reduces swelling in the stomach, this is because it contains natural compounds that help eliminate gas from the body.

5. Refreshes the breath

If you're stuck without gum or peppermint candy after a highly aromatic meal and want to improve your bad breath a little, try chewing some parsley leaves.

Parsley is quite effective in neutralizing unpleasant odors, especially those of garlic and onions.

Just don't forget to check afterwards that there are no greens stuck in your teeth.

6. Helps urinary tract infections

If you suffer from recurring urinary tract infections, try adding more parsley to your diet.

Parsley contains chemical components that encourage contractions of the muscles of the intestines, bladder and uterus.

Therefore, it may also help urinary tract infections, stomach upsets and even period pains.

7.

Protects eyesight We have already mentioned that parsley contains vitamin A, the consumption of a sufficient amount of which is particularly important for the health of the eyes and normal vision, and prevents, among other things, problems of dry eyes, night blindness and cataracts.

8. Protects against heart disease

Parsley contains folic acid, which helps regulate normal levels of an amino acid called homocysteine, and this is important because high levels of this acid are associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

Similar to vitamin C, folic acid is also sensitive to heat, so to get this benefit it is important to eat fresh parsley, and not just add it to dishes.
