One of the passengers in the car filmed the chain of events and the video was passed on to police investigators.
The incident occurred on Tuesday last week, when a number of women who were on their way to Eilat and were traveling on Route 90, in the southern part of the Arava Road, noticed a truck driver traveling on both lanes and not allowing them to overtake.
From the video taken, the driver was seen driving slowly on both lanes.
For an unknown reason, the truck driver stopped in the middle of the two lanes, got out of the cab and approached the vehicle behind him with a hammer in his hand.
The women in the vehicle started screaming and at the last minute before the truck driver approached the vehicle they managed to get down to the side of the road and overtake it.
At the same time, they called the 100 police station and reported what was happening.
The driver was arrested when he arrived at the checkpoint and taken for questioning.
The Israel Police responded: "Following a report received by the police about a week ago about a truck driver who got off the truck and threatened passengers in the vehicle in front of him. He was detained for questioning, at the end of which he was released on condition of removal from Eilat.
