The creation of Inrap follows the law of January 17, 2001, which systematizes archaeological diagnoses and preventive excavations.
While there may have been some reluctance on the part of planners at the start, it has now become a smooth practice: a virtuous circle has emerged, which makes it possible to reconcile regional planning and preservation of heritage through study.
If necessary, a construction can be preceded by a state-prescribed excavation.
