Two golf courses in the Toulouse conurbation were damaged by an environmental group overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, accusing them of excessive water consumption in the midst of a drought, we learned from the group and the golf courses concerned.
Activists from the Kirikou collective, close to Extinction Rebellion, attacked the Garonne golf course, north of the city, as well as that of Vieille Toulouse, to the south.
They damaged the greens, blocked holes with cement and put signs on the course.
All metropolitan departments are currently subject to a drought alert.
To cope with the lack of water, drastic measures can be taken to limit its use.
The majority of the Haute-Garonne department is placed on heightened drought alert.
Problem: in departments classified as “enhanced alert” or “crisis”, maximum level of emergency, golf greens can still be watered, within a certain limit.
This is what the Kirikou collective denounces in a press release.
The golf director plans to file a complaint
"This claimed act of sabotage resonates like a move to direct action in a context of incessant blabla from politicians who never dare to take the necessary decisions", specify the environmental activists.
"This hole has been plugged because its use did not align with maintaining a viable world," read one of the signs placed on one of the two courses.

The director of the Garonne golf course, Nicolas Astier, plans to file a complaint.
“These are people who are not well informed about our water consumption: we only water the greens, it is an area that represents only half of a football field”, he laments. .
“We've been paying attention to our water consumption for two months,” he says.
