Drug trafficking: how France covered itself with deal points

ANALYSIS - The deal point is an inescapable reality and a now generic element of our urban landscapes.


This note is the second in a series of four establishing the panorama of drug trafficking, production and consumption in France.

According to the OFDT, France has 5 million cannabis consumers, including 1.4 million regular consumers (consuming on average 10 times a month).

France is thus the leading consumer country in Europe.

To serve this vast market, a whole parallel economy has been set up over the last decades, employing tens of thousands of traffickers (nearly 20% of prisoners in French prisons are inmates for violations narcotics).

Data published by the Ministry of the Interior in December 2020 indicated that there were no less than 4,000 deal points in France.

This number should be compared, for example, with the number of tobacco shops, which are 24,000.
